Discreet paternity test: what stays confidential?

Short answer: only the person who placed the order receives the result, as a PDF, at their email address. Your genetic data is never sold or shared, and the GDPR puts you in control of it.

Who sees the result?

Only you. The report is sent only to the email address used for the order. It isn't posted, and it isn't sent to the other participants, a doctor or a lawyer.

Our advice:

  • order with an email address only you can access
  • if others need to know the result, forward it yourself
  • at the lab, access to your sample is limited to the people performing the analysis

For health tests, Adnà anonymises your sample with its partners. For a parentage test, the sample has to be linked to a person, since that's the point of the test. It is therefore handled with access limited to what is strictly necessary.

What shows on the package and bank statement?

The package: the kit shows only the Adnà name and its slogan, "Votre ADN a des réponses" ("Your DNA has answers"). The word "paternity" doesn't appear. You can also ask for a plain envelope with no name. The kit arrives within 4–5 business days, anywhere in Europe and the UK.

The bank statement: the charge appears as "ADN A LA CARTE", with no mention of the type of test.

Paying in instalments: Klarna is available, but it also leaves a trace in the Klarna app.

For someone else: you can have the kit delivered directly to another person, such as the alleged father.

Can I use a toothbrush or hair instead of a swab?

Yes, with the special sample option (€600). The cheek swab remains the most reliable method.

  • Cheek swab (included), highest success rate: rub the inside of the cheek
  • Toothbrush, 90% or more: used by one person only, air-dried 30 min before packing
  • Blood, 90% or more: whole blood in a vacutainer tube (lavender cap preferred), or blood on blotting paper
  • Nail clippings, 60–90%: 5–10 clippings
  • Hair, 60% or less: 7–10 hairs with visible roots

Other items can be tested, such as a cigarette butt, dental floss, a disposable razor or a comb, with more variable success rates. Write to us before sending to check that your sample is suitable.

Turnaround is longer, because the lab first applies an adapted extraction method.

Reminder: a special sample doesn't remove the need for consent. Analysing an adult's toothbrush without their knowledge is illegal in several countries, and in France any paternity test outside court proceedings is prohibited.

How long are DNA and data kept?

Paternity tests ordered in Europe are analysed by our ISO 17025 accredited partner laboratory. It disposes of informational test samples within 30 days of completing the analysis. You can also ask Adnà to delete your data at any time.

What is guaranteed:

  • your data is never sold or shared with third parties
  • our partners use your data strictly to perform the analysis
  • your genetic data is special category data under the GDPR (art. 9), processed with your explicit consent
  • you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, at any time, by writing to info@adnalacarte.com
  • you can also complain to your country's data protection authority (CNIL, APD, FDPIC, ICO…)

Full details are in our privacy policy.

In short

  • The result goes only to your email, as a PDF.
  • The package shows only the Adnà name, and an unbranded envelope is available on request.
  • Samples are disposed of within 30 days of analysis.
  • The swab is the best option. A special sample costs €600 and is less certain.
  • The GDPR protects your genetic data, and you can ask for it to be erased.
