Sibling DNA test: are you biological siblings?
Adnà’s siblingship test compares the DNA of two to four people to assess whether they share both biological parents (full siblings), one parent (half-siblings), or neither. The saliva sample is collected at home and is painless. The analysis is carried out by a partner laboratory accredited to ISO 17025. You receive a PDF report by email 5 to 10 business days after the lab receives your samples.
It is the test to choose when the parent in question is not available: an absent or deceased father, an adoption or a family reunion. The kit is delivered across Europe and the UK.
How much does a sibling DNA test cost?
The price depends on how many people are tested. All prices include the kit, the prepaid return label, the lab analysis and the report.

In Europe, Adnà offers informational relationship tests only. They are designed to answer a personal or family question privately. Their results are not intended for use in court.
Rules on DNA relationship testing vary from one country to another. Before ordering, check that an informational test is allowed in your country of residence.
How the test works, step by step
- Order online. Your kit arrives within 4 to 5 business days. It contains one sample envelope per person tested.
- Collect the samples. Each person rubs a swab inside their cheek for a few seconds. It is painless. Our video guide shows every step.
- Send the samples back with the prepaid return label included in your kit.
- Get your results by email, as a PDF, 5 to 10 business days after the lab receives your samples.
How to read the result
The lab analyzes 22 genetic markers (loci) and calculates the probability that the people tested are full siblings, half-siblings or unrelated. The result is expressed as a percentage, from almost 0% to 99.99%.
You often hear that full siblings share 50% of their DNA and half-siblings 25%. These are only averages: the actual share varies from one family to another. That is why the lab relies on a statistical calculation rather than a simple percentage of shared DNA.
The test shows whether you share one or two parents. On its own, it does not say which parent you have in common. If the question is about a specific father who can be tested, a paternity test will give a clearer answer.
Siblingship test or another relationship test?
- The parent is available: test them directly with a paternity test or a maternity test.
- The grandparents are available: a grandparentage test is another option.
- You are twins: the twin zygosity test shows whether you are identical or fraternal twins.
Is there a free sibling DNA test?
No. A reliable DNA test requires an analysis in an accredited lab, so it is never free. Be wary of low headline prices that do not include the analysis. At Adnà, the price shown covers the kit, the return, the analysis and the report.

No. Sample collection is painless. It involves a simple cheek swab, gently rubbed against the inside of the cheek for a few seconds. No blood draw, needles, or medical procedure are required. The method is safe, gentle, and suitable for all ages, including children.
Relationship tests offer extremely high accuracy. For a positive paternity or relationship result, the biological relationship is confirmed with a probability of at least 99.99%. For a paternity exclusion, if the tested individual is not the biological father, the result is considered 100% certain. Analyses are performed according to strict international standards in accredited laboratories.
Yes, provided the kit instructions are followed and male contamination is avoided during sample collection. The accuracy rate is 99.99% under optimal conditions. If in doubt, the Adnà team can guide the client.
Yes, for relationship tests, our partner laboratory can perform the analysis on non-standard samples such as a toothbrush or blood, for example. The price is higher, around 600 euros depending on the case, and the turnaround time is longer because the laboratory must first apply a DNA extraction method suited to the type of material. Some samples (e.g., rootless hair, old tissue, very old cigarette butts) contain very little or degraded DNA.

A twin zygosity test determines whether twins are monozygotic (identical) or dizygotic (fraternal) by comparing their DNA. A sibling test instead evaluates the biological relationship between two individuals to determine whether they are siblings, by analyzing the proportion of shared DNA.
No. In Europe, Adnà offers informational relationship tests only, for personal use. Their results are not intended for court proceedings, and Adnà does not offer DNA tests for immigration. For an official procedure, check with the authority concerned: it usually requires its own laboratory and a supervised sample collection.
Relationship tests are extremely reliable for confirming or excluding a biological relationship, but they provide no information about health or ethnic origins. In Europe, our relationship tests are informational: they are intended for personal use and are not designed for court or immigration purposes.
