Cat genetic health test: screen for inherited diseases

Adnà’s cat genetic test looks for mutations associated with several known inherited diseases in your cat’s DNA. It shows whether your cat is a carrier or at risk, so you can act early and discuss it with your vet. All it takes is a cheek swab, collected at home.

The diseases analyzed

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a heart muscle disease
  • Pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKDef), which affects red blood cells
  • Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), which can lead to blindness
  • GM2 gangliosidosis, a neurological disease

Some of these conditions are more common in certain breeds.

How to read the result

For each mutation, the report shows whether your cat carries it. Carrying a variant does not mean the disease will develop: it indicates a possible predisposition, or a risk of passing it on to kittens.

Who is it for?

  • Owners who want to complement their cat’s veterinary care.
  • Breeders who want a responsible breeding program.

How much does the test cost?

The cat genetic health test costs €199, including the kit, the lab analysis and the report. There are no hidden fees.

How the test works

  1. Order online. Your kit arrives within 4 to 5 business days.
  2. Collect the sample by rubbing the swab provided inside your pet’s cheek for a few seconds. It is painless and safe.
  3. Send the sample back to the lab, following the kit instructions.
  4. Get the report by email, as a PDF.

Tip: avoid feeding your pet or letting it drink in the hour before sampling, and keep it from licking another animal.

Questions?

Depending on the test chosen, the client can obtain breed identification, certain genetic predispositions to hereditary diseases, as well as physical or behavioral traits. This information can help better understand the animal and tailor its care.

The test is done at home using a cheek swab. The sample is then sent to the laboratory for genetic analysis and comparison with reference databases.

The analyses rely on validated genetic markers and breed databases. Accuracy depends on the test chosen and the genetic data available.

These tests are useful for curious pet owners, adopted animals of unknown origin, or breeders who want to better understand an animal's genetics.

You can order your kit online on the Adnà website by selecting the test you're interested in. The process is simple and guided. Once your order is placed, you will receive an order confirmation.

Your kit is generally delivered to your home within 4 to 5 business days after you place your order, depending on your address.

You will receive your report directly at the email address associated with your order, in PDF format.
