Pharmacogenomics test: how your genes affect your medications
Why does a medication work well for one person and cause side effects in another? Part of the answer lies in your genes. Adnà’s pharmacogenomics test analyzes the genetic variations that influence how your body processes and eliminates many medications.
A simple saliva sample, collected at home, is all it takes. The analysis is carried out by an accredited partner laboratory using Illumina technology. You receive your report as a PDF by email 30 to 45 business days after the lab receives your sample.
What you learn
Your report shows how your genes may influence your response to dozens of medications, grouped by medical specialty:
- Cardiology: certain medications used for the heart and circulation.
- Neurology: certain medications acting on the nervous system.
- Pain: certain painkillers.
- Oncology: certain cancer treatments.
- Other areas: other common families of medications.
For each medication, the report shows whether your genetic profile could affect its effectiveness or the risk of side effects.
Pharmacogenetics or pharmacogenomics?
Both words describe the same idea: using your DNA to better choose and dose your medications. Pharmacogenetics usually refers to the effect of one gene on one drug, and pharmacogenomics to the analysis of many genes at once, as this test does. It is one of the foundations of personalized medicine.

How to use your results
Show your report to your doctor or pharmacist. They can take it into account when choosing a medication or adjusting a dose. Your genes do not change during your life, so the report remains useful for future treatments.

Limits of the test
Genetics explains only part of how you respond to medications. Age, weight, liver and kidney function, other medications and diet also play a role. This test is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a medical consultation.

How do I collect my DNA sample?
Sample collection is simple, quick and painless, and is done at home with no appointment. Detailed instructions are included in your Adnà kit, and our instructions page walks you through them step by step.

How do I send back my collection kit once the sample is collected?
• After collecting and registering your sample, stick the prepaid return label included in the envelope over the shipping label.
• Seal the envelope, making sure it contains the samples tightly closed in their packaging.
• Mail the envelope by dropping it in a mailbox.
• You can track your order and receive the main shipping notifications by email.
Once the lab receives your samples, allow 5 to 7 business days for the results of a DNA relationship test, and 30 to 45 business days for a health or wellness test.
