DNA tests: what we do, and what we don’t do

Adnà offers informational DNA relationship tests across Canada, legal tests in Greater Montréal, and health and wellness tests for informational purposes. We do not offer prenatal tests, immigration tests or medical diagnoses.

A DNA test often answers an important question. If we are not the right choice for your situation, we would rather tell you before you order.

DNA relationship tests

What we do

  • At-home informational paternity test: $225, results in 5 to 7 business days after the lab receives the samples, PDF report by email. See the paternity test.
  • Maternity, sibling, twin, aunt and uncle, grandparent tests: same method, 22 markers analyzed by an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory in Canada.
  • Legal test (for a court or a notary): $325, in Greater Montréal only. Our team collects the samples, at our office or at your home, to verify each person’s identity.
  • Non-standard sample (toothbrush, hair, etc.): $650 for a paternity test with special sample collection.

What we don’t do

  • Legal test outside Greater Montréal: look for a laboratory with collection centres in your area.
  • Paternity test during pregnancy: talk to your doctor, or look for a “non-invasive prenatal paternity test”. After birth, a cheek swab can be taken in the child’s first days of life.
  • Immigration test: Immigration Canada (IRCC) requires an accredited laboratory that follows its own procedure. Follow the instructions in your IRCC letter.
  • Test without the consent of a tested adult: every adult tested must consent. For a minor child, a parent or legal guardian consents.
  • Turning an informational test into a legal one: this is not possible afterwards, because legal sample collection must be done by an independent person.
  • Health or ancestry information: a relationship test confirms or excludes a biological relationship, nothing more.

DNA 360 test and health tests

What we do

  • DNA 360 test: one saliva sample, several reports: genetic predispositions, pharmacogenomics, nutrition, sports and performance, skin care, talent and personality, ancestry. See the DNA 360 test.
  • Genetic predisposition test: $279. It compares your predisposition to common diseases with that of the population and detects mutations linked to hundreds of hereditary diseases, using over 700,000 markers. See the test.
  • Pharmacogenomics test: $279. It shows how your genes influence your response to dozens of medications (cardiology, neurology, pain, oncology). See the test.
  • Turnaround: results in 30 to 45 business days after the lab receives the sample, PDF report by email. Sequencing takes longer than a relationship test.

What we don’t do

  • No medical diagnosis: our tests are informational and educational. They help you prepare a conversation with your doctor, but do not replace medical advice.
  • No certainty about a disease: a predisposition is not a diagnosis. Your results also depend on environment, lifestyle and other factors.
  • No change of treatment: never change a medication based on a pharmacogenomics report without talking to your doctor or pharmacist.
  • No results within days: if you need a quick answer, these tests are not the right fit.
