Legal paternity test in Montréal: price, appointment and results

Adnà offers legal paternity tests in Greater Montréal: $325 before taxes, sample collection at our Rosemont office or at your home, each person’s identity verified, results in 5 to 7 business days.

What is a legal paternity test?

It is a test where an independent person collects the samples, verifies each participant’s identity and documents the chain of custody of the samples. This is what allows the result to be presented to a court or a notary. The analysis is the same as for the informational test: 22 genetic markers, read by a Canadian laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by the Standards Council of Canada (file no. 15873, official scope of accreditation).

How does the test work?

  1. Order the legal test online, then book the appointment: at our office (2855 rue de Bellechasse, Montréal) or at your home elsewhere in Greater Montréal.
  2. At the appointment, our team verifies each person’s identity. For a minor child, a parent or legal guardian gives consent.
  3. We take each person’s cheek swab and seal the samples.
  4. The samples are sent to the laboratory.
  5. The PDF report is emailed 5 to 7 business days after the laboratory receives them.

How much does the legal test cost?

  • Alleged father and 1 child: $325
  • Alleged father and 2 children: $450
  • Alleged father and 3 children: $550
  • Appointment at our office: included
  • Home appointment in Greater Montréal: $200 extra

Taxes extra. Example: $325 + GST and QST = $373.67. All our prices: how much a paternity test costs in Quebec.

Will the result be accepted?

The legal test is designed to be presented to a court or a notary. However, it is the court that decides how much weight to give a piece of evidence: if proceedings are under way, check with your lawyer before ordering.

What the legal test does not cover

  • Outside Greater Montréal: we do not offer legal sample collection.
  • Immigration: Immigration Canada (IRCC) requires its own procedure; our tests are not for immigration.
  • During pregnancy: we do not offer prenatal tests.
  • An informational test already done: it cannot be converted into a legal test, because legal sample collection must be done by an independent person from the start.
